I spent two years trying to keep vascular tissue alive at the Morgridge Institute. Now I keep Adacavo's out-of-home ad operations alive — inventory, maps, contracts, billing — and I ship side projects in AI, language learning, and geospatial tools. Biology taught me systems thinking; software taught me to ship it.

Vascular tissue & UW-Madison

Graduated from UW-Madison in biology and worked at the Morgridge Institute, where the goal was to keep vascular tissue alive outside the body long enough for organs to reach transplant patients. I learned systems thinking by debugging living systems.

The Starbucks encounter

I was building a little health-info website at a Starbucks when I noticed a guy with a GitHub sticker on his laptop. I introduced myself, said I was applying for developer jobs, and asked if he had any recommendations. He said: check Craigslist.

Craigslist job search
CH.02

Craigslist job search

I applied to a handful of developer postings on Craigslist. A while later someone reached out to schedule an interview. Turned out to be the Starbucks guy's old boss. Small world, smaller ecosystem.

CH.03

Learning the basics the hard way

After the interview and a take-home assignment, they hired me. I spent the next few years learning the actual craft — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, databases — mostly by shipping things I didn't fully understand and then fixing them in production at 2am.

Paying it forward
CH.04

Paying it forward

I'm grateful for the people who helped me get here. I repay it by connecting other developers to jobs, projects, and each other — the same way someone once did for me.

Connecting developers
CH.05

Connecting developers

Most of the luckiest moments in my career came from someone else making an intro. I pass that forward now — matching developers with jobs, projects, and each other across X and LinkedIn.

Connecting ecosystems
CH.06

Connecting ecosystems

Real products don't fit in one language or one cloud. I end up wiring Python for data, TypeScript for the UI, Postgres for the source of truth, and LLM APIs for the parts that used to need a human — whatever gets the job done.

Too much espresso
CH.07

Too much espresso

Known weakness: too much espresso → bad sleep → more espresso to compensate → loop. I also take on too many things at once and then wonder why progress is slow. Working on it.

Outside the IDE

Outside the IDE

Books, music all day, making my own protein bars, testing new tools, sci-fi and comedy, and staying active. The work doesn't work without the rest.

BELIEFS.TXT
  • A spreadsheet running a $2M operation is a moat. Your job is to replace it without breaking the business.
  • The best code is the code you can debug at 2am when a customer is angry.
  • Most 'AI strategy' is just good workflow automation with a language model attached. Start there.
  • The intro someone made for you cost them nothing. Pass it on.
  • Boring infrastructure beats shiny infrastructure when you have real users.
HOBBIES.TXT

  • Every genre of music, always

  • Sci-fi + comedy films
  • Coffee. A lot of coffee.
WEAKNESSES.TXT
  • Espresso → bad sleep → more espresso. Working on it.
  • I still take on too many side projects and then wonder why the main one slows down.
  • I build features before I write the landing page. Marketing comes second.

First dev job, found on Craigslist

A stranger at Starbucks saw my GitHub sticker and told me to check Craigslist. His old boss hired me. I spent the next year learning the real craft: HTML, CSS, JS, databases, and how to ship without breaking production.

FULL-STACK2017–2019

Range across the stack

Built across React, TypeScript, Node, Postgres, PostGIS, Python, AWS, and design. Got good at zero-to-one, and even better at debugging the things I broke at 2am.

PRODUCTS2020–2022

Client work hardened into products

Kept seeing the same problems in OOH, local business, and media ops. Stopped doing one-off sites and started building reusable systems. Some worked, some didn't. The patterns stuck.

CTO at Adacavo

Went all-in on Adacavo, a vertical SaaS platform for out-of-home advertising. Real customers, long sales cycles, messy data migrations, and the hardest product problems I've worked on yet.

Real products I've shipped — some bootstrapped, some sold, and a few still embarrassing me into improving.
